Association Leadership Award

Beauty & Homecare Association (IKW) – Leadership Team

In mid 1950s Household & Beauty Care industry was seen as ‘Enemy of Nature’. Press, authorities, NGOs and public were blaming the industry for polluting rivers with waste water stemming either from the production process or when discharged after use, and not taking care of nature.

Today the industry is seen as the most sustainable and responsible industry worldwide and rightfully advertises under the umbrella-concept ‘Beautyful.Life.’. Our latest development of numbers of members (>400 / highest ever) or our latest member survey results with nearly maximum rating speak for themselves.

This has been achieved by clear target setting combined with lots of novel technique or creative approaches. Just to name a few examples: Dialog Platforms ‘Haut.de’, ‘Forum Waschen’, ‘Dialog Kosmetik’ or the Europe-wide product seal Charter for Sustainable cleaning with a steadily growing membership .

European Association for the Promotion of Cogeneration (COGEN Europe) – COGEN Europe Team

Over 2017/2018, COGEN Europe conducted a comprehensive ‘Strategy Review’ to address the changing market conditions and evolving EU energy and climate regulatory framework applying to the cogeneration sector in Europe. The main objective of this process was to ensure that cogeneration remains a key energy solution in the future. A new Vision on the role and benefits of cogeneration in the energy system at the 2050 horizon and a growth pathway for the sector were developed. Upon finalising the process, a timely and result-oriented campaign helped communicate the Vision to EU policymakers and stakeholders in Brussels and across Europe. This Strategy Review and its new Vision allowed COGEN Europe to achieve several objectives:

  • Increasing awareness on the benefits of cogeneration thanks to a solid and coherent narrative, helping address the perception identified challenges;
  • Improving access to EU policymakers to secure a favourable EU regulatory framework where cogeneration is recognised as a key solution in the future energy system;
  • Improving the representation of COGEN Europe Members’ core common interests in a timely and effective manner towards EU institutions; and
  • Guiding Members, by supporting them in seizing new opportunities and mitigating risks deriving from changing EU regulatory environment.

Spanish Society of Periodontology (SEPA) – Javier García Gómez-Die

The Spanish Society of Periodontology (SEPA) was founded in 1959. In the 1980s, it started a process of modernization thanks to the first Spanish periodontists who had studied in the United States – a young generation in a country that was beginning to open its society to the world after the end of the Franco dictatorship. On top of that, the dentistry sector started to change because of new technologies and a new paradigm based on implant dentistry, industry, and evidence-based science. The society’s 50th anniversary in 2009 provided the leverage to start a clear process of change, which involved implementing a brand strategy that consisted of opening the organization. The drivers to facilitate this journey will be:

  • Internationalization of the Congress, membership, and sponsorship
  • Co-operation with other countries in the world to empower smaller national societies
  • Latin American countries will be the first goal but there will be parallel processes in other regions
  • A wider vision of SEPA’s Global projects with companies involved in the sector

The Spanish Society of Periodontology has evolved into the SEPA Foundation with a clear vision of developing periodontology and promoting oral health.

The European Chemical Industry Council (Cefic) – Marco Mensink

Marco Mensink was appointed Cefic’s Director General in January 2016 with a clear mandate:
help raise the profile of Europe’s chemicals sector and establish the industry as a solution provider for a sustainable and innovative economy. While stepping into his new role, Marco Mensink realized that in order for Cefic to become effective in advocating its position in Brussels, the whole organization had to undergo a complete reorganization – from Cefic’s internal governance structure to the office location and new approaches to advocacy. He initiated this organization process in 2016 and, supported by the Leadership Team, succeeded in implementing most of it by November 2018. Instead of simply giving Cefic a “facelift” and updating the association’s façade and external positioning, he has taken on the approach that has completely changed the way Cefic functions by introducing new, more efficient processes and cultivating new values and ways of working among the members and staff.
