Cosmetics Europe – Cosmetics Europe Science Conference – Cutting Edge Safety Science: Paving the way to the Future
Cosmetics Europe Science Conference 2017: giving a voice to scientists #coseuscience2017

The cosmetics and personal care industry is a science-driven sector which makes large investments in R&D. So far, there was however no separate science-dedicated conference organised by the European cosmetics and personal care industry. Cosmetics Europe decided to change it and give a voice to the scientists as well as provide the platform to discuss the cutting-edge safety science with industry experts and key decision makers from the sector.

The Cosmetics Europe Science Conference took place on 26-27 October in Brussels and focused on the industry’s achievements, challenges and upcoming research projects. Participants got the chance to discuss the areas which are key for performing the assessment of cosmetics ingredients without animal testing.

The conference was supported by as many as nine sponsors and three media partners. Over 190 participants registered to listen to 32 speakers during plenary and parallel sessions. Three scientific posters were awarded and the Scientific Advisory Board for the Long Range Science Strategy (LRSS) Programme was inaugurated.

International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) – Europlatform
Europlatform – the conference for European access professionals

Europlatform is an annual conference aimed primarily at senior managers of rental businesses in the industry of powered access and mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs).

The most recent conference, on 14 September 2017, held in Warsaw, Poland, was the 11th successive annual Europlatform event.

Europlatform has a peripatetic nature; each year a different European city is chosen to host the conference.

First-class speakers present on all aspects of running a powered access fleet business. Aimed at those at the helm of powered access businesses the conference covers management techniques, legal issues and skills and tips for managing fleets of machines (MEWPs). The conference is also an opportunity to join a network of like-minded industry professionals and some of the presentations can challenge delegates to reassess how they make investment decisions.

The event has developed its own following and attracts senior level delegates from across Europe. A mixture of regulars and new visitors attend, which is achieved by moving the conference around Europe

The conference provides an opportunity for professionals to be part of the European and essentially, global, powered access community.

The European Association for the Study of Obesity (EASO) – European Obesity Day Policy Conference 2017
The European Association for the Study of Obesity (EASO) exceeded all expectations when they staged a major conference in Brussels on May 10, 2017. It was entitled ‘Implementing national obesity policies and action plans in Europe’. The conference brought together decision makers from European Member States, the European institutions and leading public health organisations primarily to learn from each others’ initiatives and best practices. It included keynote addresses from the World Health Organization, the European Commission and patient advocates.

John Bowis, former MEP and UK Minister of Health commented afterwards: “People were coming to this conference from Member States telling us what they were doing. Not perhaps as in the past, what should be done and what needed to be done, but how they were meeting the challenges. That’s real progress.”

Professor Harry Rutter, Senior Clinical Research Fellow at The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine said he was “seriously impressed” by the policy conference. “The thing that has most surprised me is not just the number of people who have turned up, but the kind of people who’ve turned up,” he said. “Today has brought a set of perspectives that is really unusual to see brought together at the same time.”

The Wine and Spirit Trade Association – WSTA Annual Conference 2017
The WSTA Annual Conference takes place in September every year. Its aim is to bring together WSTA members, key external stakeholders such as politicians and selected non-members for a one-day event which provides an overview of industry updates, WSTA developments and campaigns, and the chance to hear from high profile speakers about topics relevant to the wine and spirit industry.

The theme for the WSTA Annual Conference 2017 was “Trading Spaces – creative partnerships with the EU and the rest of the World”, Brexit still being the key topic of interest to our members. This year, the conference attendance record was broken for a second year running; the speaker line up was the best to date and included former Trade Minister, Lord Price, Brexiteer and Chairman of JD Wetherspoon, Tim Martin; Co-chair of Dechert LLP’s International Trade and Government Regulation practice, Miriam González Durántez; and former head of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Sir Simon Fraser; and the new pre-conference Brexit workshop was an incredible success. The conference is absolutely fundamental for the WSTA in developing relationships with our members, ensuring our messaging is effective and being listened to, and as a substantial industry PR exercise.
